a new look at Ganymede

NASA and the USGS have been hard at work pulling together this interesting map of Ganymede, the largest moon in our solar system. Geo means earth, so what should Ganymedian geology be called?

Good night, planet Earth.

My brother sent me this article about the Chinese lunar rover Jade Rabbit, which has been given a "folksy" personality and official diary by the official Xinhua News Agency. As the rover faced some trouble, and the prospect of not surviving the cold, dark, lunar night, it wrote:

"I'll tell everyone a secret. Actually, I'm not feeling especially sad. Just like any other hero, I've only encountered a little problem while on my own adventure. Good night, planet earth. Good night, humanity."

Can we manage a planet?

Another interesting article about geoengineering. Perhaps we should experiment on Venus first? Here's Don Pettit's shot of the 2012 transit from aboard the ISS.
